At our 115th anniversary, there will be a charity fundraising. Our chosen charity is Bede House.
Bede House is a local Southwark charity, with the flexibility to respond to the area’s changing needs. Since 1938, they’ve been working to unlock new possibilities for young and old to live fuller lives, in some of the most deprived neighbourhoods in Britain.
They bring people from all walks of life together into a vibrant local community – for example supporting volunteers with a learning disability to visit their elderly housebound neighbours, providing company and practical support. Their friendly Centre offers a welcoming space for people with learning disabilities to make new friends and expand their horizons, as well as providing vital respite for carers. All of their activities, training, volunteering and employment programmes aim to build participants’ skills, confidence and independence.
They offer young people a special place outside home and school to find friendship and enjoy exciting activities. Their clubs, music studio and holiday adventures are a fun way to build confidence and realise potential, while their youth workers are ready to help when personal challenges arise.
Bede has also spent over 20 years helping those experiencing domestic abuse. Their multidisciplinary team offers one-to-one guidance, group programmes, counselling and access to legal assistance. Unlike mainstream services, they are able to continue until a solution is achieved.
