At the 12th edition of CFCC’s International Tasting: Wine, Spirits & Beer, the NBCC will be represented by our member Lervig! During the evening, guests will be able to taste a variety of international drinks without leaving the City thanks to a great selection of wines, spirits and beers from Belgium and Luxembourg, Canada, the Caribbean, Côte d’Ivoire, Denmark, Iceland, Italy, Norway, South Africa, Spain and Sweden!
LERVIG is an independently owned and operated craft brewery located in Stavanger, Norway. Founded in 2003, they produce awide range of beers, from easy-drinking pilsners and pale ales to bold and complexbarrel-aged stouts, barley wines, and sours.
Despite Covid, Lervig managed to turn around and adjust their business to a new way of living. The result? Never higher sales numbers and income! By looking for opportunities missing in the market, they managed to turn the tide with help from their outstanding employees.
One of their moves was to open their very own brewpub in Stavanger. Imagine being tough enough to do so in the middle of a pandemic? The bar is located in Eiganes, where everyone can find a new favourite, taste specials and get the latest news from the brewery. They also deliver free food to customers and restaurants close to the city centrum of Stavanger. We can’t forget to mention their first concept bar, Lucky, in Bergen. Lucky is the place to taste specials for the first time, get to know breweries and meet friends with common interests.
The global perspective is vital in the brewing process. When visiting Lervig, you’ll find an international team passionate about craft beer. The employees love what they do and their beer. It’s so much easier to create good beer when you are deep in it with your legs and arms!
The hope is to expand beyond the Norwegian borders even though they are currently exporting to over 30 countries! Their mission is to ‘Brew the best beer in the world’. Export accounts for 40% of their sales now! The UK is Lervigs second-biggest market. Here they are imported by Cave Direct and available via Beer Merchants.
Together with Mike Murphy, the head brewer, they are constantly working outside their comfort zone to create more refreshing and stimulating quality beer. One of their most popular beer (which you’ll also be able to try at the event) is the alcohol-free beer No-Worries. Thanks to the process used to make it, it tastes similar to a pale ale, like a low ABV beer. Non-alcoholic beer is, in fact, one of the highest growing drink categories in 2022. The combinationof low calories and the complex flavours from fermentation satisfies both athletes and regular beer drinkers.
As a proper independent brewery, they offer brewer tours groups for 10-20 people. You will get to know us, the brewery and check out some of our freshest beers. If you want to go by yourself or with a smaller group, they have scheduled tours every 3rd Friday of the month – what are you waiting for?
