For the second time we are pleased to invite all interested to come celebrate Saint Lucia in Hull Minster, celebrated most commonly in Scandinavia, with their long dark winters, where it is a major feast day.
Saint Lucia is called Sankta Lucia in Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, she is represented as a lady in a white dress with a crown or wreath of candles on her head. In Scandinavia, girls and boys dressed as Saint Lucia carry candles in procession as songs are sung, which symbolises bringing the light of Christianity throughout world darkness.
In collaboration with Hull Minster, the Danish Church in Hull and supported by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, Finnish-British Chamber of Commerce, Norwegian British Chamber of Commerce, Icelandic British Chamber of Commerce, we are pleased to invite anyone interested near and far – you, your family, friends and colleagues, communities in and all around the Humber to experience this most joyous of Christmas traditions – all are welcome.
Entrance is free on a first come basis.
Post service Scandinavian mulled wine (gløgg) with ginger biscuits and similar will be served.
